Step 1: Meet & Greet – Are We Right For Each Other?
We understand the frustrations out there in the exercise & fitness world. With the “internet information age”, it’s still hard to find credible information much less get quality face-to-face time to determine if what you are seeking is what we offer.
And, with most exercise & fitness centers, sessions can feel rushed, at times impersonal, and not very focused…
Which is why our very first step, before we begin any form of exercise, is for us to get to know you and you get to know & learn about us! It’s truly about you!
Because every single person who is seeking expert knowledge and guidance is different, we want to know if we are a good match. We all have different body types, past injuries & experiences, and different goals.
We also understand that every single person is unique, so our first step is to get a deep understanding of you, your past, and your goals. We can create a plan that focuses around YOU and your aspirations.
At PEAK Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation & CORE FITNESS Performance Center, we have created an environment that was designed for health, fitness, and performance.
This starts with having an open, honest conversation about you and your goals.
We want to make sure you’ll feel comfortable working with us, and to make sure that we will be a good fit, before we begin.
Step 2: Assessment: Discovering What You Can & Can’t Do Well!
It can be worrying if you haven’t exercised in a long time, have a few too many extra pounds, or can’t seem to get off that plateau. This is where an Assessment is truly valuable.
If you truly don’t know where you are…How can you create a plan to get to Your Goal?
And I mean an honest subjective look into your habits and movements…
The body is very complex, and everything is truly ‘connected’. Don’t try to become fit if you’re not healthy!
We often find there are parts of your body that may not be working ‘correctly’, and creates movement problems elsewhere and/or may be sabotaging your improvements.
Examples of this may include:
- Doing stretches or exercises which create ‘compensations’ when you move;
- Doing stretches or exercises that develop chronic inflammation or toxic metabolic syndromes;
- Doing stretches or exercises that cause tight or restricted soft-tissues which come from our modern societal living;
- Doing stretches or exercises which can cause you to move poorly without you knowing;
- Doing stretches or exercises that might not be helping but only making you worse.
But for every single person, the ‘primary factor(s)’ for not progressing may be a bit different…because it depends on you, your injury history, your body type, and many other factors.
Our initial goal is to perform a full-body movement screen & assessment. Only upon completing the full-body movement screen & assessment do we get the comprehensive picture of you. This assessment truly determines where you are so we can create a custom “blueprint” for your future success. Then, and only then, can we execute the path to achieving your goals utilizing your ‘personal blueprint.’
Which is why we don’t ever skip this critical step.
What is a Movement Screen?
A deep analysis of every single one of your fundamental movements, from head to toe. This screen, Functional Movement Screen developed by a fellow physical therapist, allows us to see very clearly what is different about YOU, and to SHOW you how everything is connected.
Our assessment, in conjunction with the movement screen, will capture all of the critical information needed to create a customized and personal fitness strategy and plan.
Our assessment & movement screen are unique to: Your Past History; Your Current State of Health & Fitness; essentially…You!
Step 3. Review & Plan
People usually go blindly into their workouts, even if they have a program from a book, magazine, friend, ‘internet expert’, causing progress to be less than ideal. Why? Because the program isn’t tailored to YOU! Your assessment is absolutely critical. As important as your assessment is, what we do with that information is crucial.
Which is why, BEFORE you start any exercise or training program, it is important to review the findings of the assessment and create a tailored program for you as determined by what the screen and assessment revealed.
And in some cases, what you don’t do is sometimes more important than what you are doing! We have, in a few instances, found serious underlying medical issues which we were able to refer to the correct medical provider to prevent a catastrophic injury. Our number One Goal is to make You Better – not worse!
We review your past medical and exercise history, eating & sleeping/recovery habits, current findings (as determined by the assessment & screen), and most importantly – Your Goals. We take all that information, put it in our Super Top Secret Super-Computer, and poof – We get Your Program that performs miracles!
You program is specifically tailored to ensure your success. You may not enjoy everything in your training program but nothing is there to cause you pain, embarrassment, and/or demoralize but only to build you up both physically and mentally. The great Coach John Wodden stated, “I make you do the things that you don’t want to do so that you can become the person that you want to be!” Everything we program has a specific outcome in mind – to make You into the person that you want!
Step 4: Execute a Customized & Thorough Personalized Program
Many people make the critical mistake of designing a Plan – a Program but never execute or put it into action. Which then renders it useless. “Only a well executed plan is meaningful & productive!”
So that is what we do WITH YOU!
Your program is created from our years of expert knowledge merging with the latest proven training methodologies culminating in a state-of-the-art exercise & training program. Basically, what we just said in that previous sentence is our Super Top Secret Super-Computer creates your miracle program causing a life- changing metamorphosis. Anyone still here?
Your program will have many facets but not limited to:
- Warm-Up
- Dynamic / Active Movement Preparation
- Pre-Habilitation
- Agility Movement
- Power / Explosive Movements
- Strength Training
- ESD / Specific Cardiovascular Demands Training
- Cool-Down
Your program will challenge you but not destroy you – after a training session you may feel fatigued but not useless for the rest of the day. That type of exercise and programing is harmful & detrimental in the long run.
As you execute your program, we are constantly evaluating the situation for several things:
This will allow you to QUICKLY:
- Are you performing that movement correctly?
- Do we need to tweak/modify that movement?
- Is that movement benefiting you? (if not – it’s gone! We don’t do exercise just to waste time or to fill time – we want positive outcomes!)
After all, if your program is not meaningful, ‘fun’, and productive…the results and goals you yearn for will not occur.
Step 5: Progress & Move Forward
Just because we created a program, it was executed with ‘near perfect precision’ by you, don’t think that we are finished. This is where the work begins…truly!
We recreate another new program for you every 4-6 weeks for several reasons:
- Mentally – To keep it fun and engaging
- Physically – Your body adapts very quickly so after 6 weeks of a program – your body has adapted and positive changes are less likely to happen
- Mentally – You are ready to push yourself harder – further – higher
- Physically – Your body is ready to go to the ‘next level’ after building the base and/or correct poor movements
- Mentally – You will be Re-Learning/Learning about your body, how it moves, and how you can better control & guide it
- Physically – The initial strength adaptations is from neural gains – not muscular
We are always looking for you to make progress and not regress into bad habits – both physically & mentally.
Moving Forward will be constantly happening even though you thought no progress has been made. This are where re-assessments comes into play as well. Re-assessments occur when we need more information and/or to show you the progress that you have achieved through your efforts.
Static is not acceptable…only making Progress & Moving Forward!
