Our Clients Get Great Results!

Megan and I worked together for a month. While it would have been great to go longer, I made considerable progress because of her expertise. She listened to my concerns, answered my questions, and then developed a holistic program to address not only my acute symptoms but helped also me improve my overall functional fitness. Highly recommended.

I was impressed with the overall competence of the staff and the manner in which they treated all others and me while I was receiving physical therapy.  I was a physical therapy patient at another facility in Williamsburg for several weeks and can tell you without reservation that there is no comparison in the level of service that I received…

The most common types of headaches are as follows:

Cervicogenic headaches

Cervicogenic headaches are caused by problems with the cervical spine (i.e., neck). These headaches are most likely caused by dysfunction in the top three cervical spine joints. People who work in jobs that require prolonged sitting, such as working on a computer all day or driving for a living, are more likely to experience these headaches.

Poor posture is usually thought to be relatively harmless. However, they may be putting undue strain on your neck, which could result in a headache if you are not careful.

Weightlifting or other sports-related injuries are another common cause of neck pain that radiates to the head. The forces that occur when lifting a heavy object or participating in a contact sport can start a cervicogenic headache.

Tension headaches

Tension headaches occur when the muscles in your neck and scalp become tense or, in some cases, spasm. A tension headache can feel like a band around your brow.

The most common type of headache is a tension headache, but the exact cause is unknown. The muscles are thought to tense in response to stress, depression, anxiety, or a head or neck injury. These headaches are slightly more common in women and have a family history.

Cluster headaches

Cluster headaches are among the most painful types of headaches because they occur in cyclical patterns or cluster periods. A cluster headache usually wakes you up in the middle of the night with intense pain in or around one eye on one side of your head.

Musculoskeletal headaches

Musculoskeletal headaches are linked to other injuries or dysfunctions. A concussion or whiplash, for example, can cause chronic headaches from the soft tissue that supports the cervical spine. The source of the headache is an injury, but it persists in areas other than the area of the injury itself.

The most common causes are muscle imbalances, postural issues, or injury to other body regions. Emotional stress can also play a role due to the postures we adopt in response to stress.

Migraine

Researchers are unsure of the exact cause of migraines, but they are thought to be the result of temporary changes in the brain’s chemicals, nerves, and blood vessels that cause abnormal brain activity that affects nerve signals. Migraines are also thought to be hereditary and linked to our genes.

Attacks are typically characterized by painful throbbing or pulsing on one side of the head, which may be accompanied by changes in vision, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, or sound sensitivity.

They are frequently the result of a combination of factors such as your diet, emotional stress, or other environmental factors. Your therapist can help you learn to reduce the severity and frequency of your migraine episodes by addressing your “triggers.” We will also work on the tissues of the upper back, neck, and face to help relieve pain and reduce the severity of the episode.
